Everyday Neutral Brown Eyes

Monday, November 30, 2009 by artist chic
I usually wear this everyday look for work as it is not overly dramatic but still gives depth to the eyes.

These are the products I used:

I have to say that I am loving the YSL mascara. It lengthens and builds up my lashes really well and I like that YSL products seem to have that pleasant scent to them. It is well worth the investment. Be on the look out for my next posts as I am expecting a few packages in the mail. I've done some major haulage (both beauty and fashion related). I need to go on a shopping diet when the year's over.

OOTD: Staple Wear

Sunday, November 8, 2009 by artist chic
I thought I'd start an outfit of the day post series to change up the contents here a bit, so here goes. This was actually what I had worn two days ago but didn't have time to post it up until now. I went out shopping and then dinner afterwards, a post of my buys will be up later as well. It seems like these are all of my staple items, a blazer, skinnies and boots.

Cream sweater - Banana Republic
Boyfriend Blazer - Zara
Grey Skinny Jeans - Cheap Monday
Boots - Ralph Lauren

Mini Forever21 Haul

Thursday, November 5, 2009 by artist chic
I had received a 10% off coupon to Forever21 a few weeks backs and went in just the other day to see what they have. I love that store, not for only their great prices but if you really look hard enough, you can find some awesome pieces. So, going in I was expecting to see a few items that would caught my eye but surprisingly enough there really wasn't anything from the ordinary. I must've walked around the store two or three times hoping and wishing to see something because I wanted to put that coupon to good use. Needless to say, I was stuck at the jewelry section digging my way under the amount of gold and silver shenanigans. I came out with two gold rings, a feathered headband and a locket pendant necklace. Disappointed.

Favourites: MAC lip products

Monday, October 26, 2009 by artist chic

from left to right: Bare, Big Bow, Brave New Bronze, Pink Fish, Boy Bait, Smile, Ample Pink

1. Lipstick in Brave New Bronze - I've found my perfect nude lipstick! This colour will work on just about any skin tone and what's great about it is that it is a satin finish, which means it is well pigmented and has a light sheen. The down side is that it was a limited edition product. Boo hoo.

2. Plushglass in Ample Pink - I'm not a fan of MAC's lipglasses but their plushglasses, on the other hand, is fab. It is uber moisturizing as oppose to being sticky like the lipglass, and the vanilla scent is divine. What I like about this colour is that although it is pink, it is a toned down pink and not an "in your face" bright pink. This neutral pink along with the formulation of the plushglass is a sure winner.

3. Slimshine in Bare - This is a must have MAC item. It is the perfect everyday lipstick that's not too bold and not too light that you can't see it. It gives a slight shiny finish hence the name, and goes on very smoothly.

4. Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15 in Pink Fish - This LE product came out with the Hello Kitty collection and was going by fast. What makes this great is the combination of a lip balm and a lipstick. You get the moisturizing and sun protecting benefits plus the great pigmentation, and on top of that, a colour that is fun and young.

5. Dazzleglass in Smile - I do not like glittery makeup at all, a small amount of shimmer is ok but an over the top disco party on your face is not my cup of tea. When the dazzleglasses first came out, I looked at the pictures and pushed it aside as I knew it was something that I would not go for. But as I went to the counter and swatched a few of them, Smile caught my eyes. Smile is a gorgeous peachy coral colour with small pink and silver shimmers. If you are hesitant about wearing anything glittery, try something that is not too bright and with a right amount of shimmer. Smile will flatter just about anyone.

6. Lipstick in Big Bow - Amother LE Hello Kitty product, Big Bow may look like a bright and daring colour but when worn, it gives a pinkish red sheen with small purple shimmers. There is no colour like it. I was not sold when I first saw it but once I tried it on, I knew I had to get it. It is one of those colours that are unique and indescribable but gorgeous when worn.

7. Cremesheen Glass in Boy Bait - I looove the formulation of the cremesheen glasses. They are so moisturizing and not sticky at all, it reminds me of the plushglasses but without the vanilla scent and a little less thick. Boy Bait is an awesome everyday neutral colour. I forgot to take an individual picture of the cremesheen glass, ugh stupid me.

MAC Haul: Style Warriors & others

Wednesday, June 3, 2009 by artist chic
It's been a while, well I'm finally done with my exams so what better way to celebrate then with makeup, right? MAC came out with their Style Warriors collection two weeks ago and I finally got the chance to order it and it just came in the mail for me today! When I saw the little box in front of my door steps I hurriedly ran up the stairs with it and destroyed the box in my room, oh what a happy feeling that was...felt just like Christmas. I have to say that I love this collection, the colours are right up my alley. I think I might have to make a another purchase of the items I didn't get.
top l to r: Solar Riche bronzing powder, On A Mission bp blush, Eversun bp blush, Soft Force eyeshadow
middle l to r: Gold Rebel lipglass, Brave New Bronze lipstick, A Rose Romance lipstick, 188 brush
bottom: 4 eyeshadow palette, Print eyeshadow
Sorry for my bad lighting. Soft Force is there, it's a nice light gold colour. Eversun, Print and Brave New Bronze are very pigmented.

Review: MAC Summer Rose BP

Wednesday, May 13, 2009 by artist chic
When I first saw pictures for the Rose Romance collection, my eyes were drawn onto the beauty powders right away. Not only was the embossed rose on the product an attention grasper but the colours were also very pretty. At first, I was more drawn to Blush of Youth because it has a more wearable colour, but when I went into MAC, the colour was too similar to my skin tone. Not only that, but my last BP (Tahitian Sand from HK) ended up being too light, I still cannot wear it without piling it on. Now I know BP's are suppose to give colour to your face, you can wear it as a blush, hilighter or all over colour but if you have to put a ton of product just to get it to show, then it is not worth it.

Summer Rose ended up being the better of the two for me. It added a light rosey tint to my cheeks and the MA didn't even have to go over it more than twice! I love it. I would say the colour is a pearly sheer rose, great for a lighter look in the summer. For reference, I am an NC35.

Foods: Rice Noodles with Chicken Curry

Monday, May 11, 2009 by artist chic

My mom made this the other day, it is rice noodles in a coconut milk-curry soup with chicken, carrots and potatoes. In Thai, it is called "Khanom Jeen Namya", the term Khanom Jeen refers to the rice noodles which are different from the ones you normally put into Pho, these are rounder and similar to spaghetti noodles. Namya or sauces/curries can vary. Many Thais will usually put in fish meat but chicken is the other popular alternative. You can add garnishes like bean sprouts, basil, lime and chili peppers depending on how you like it. Some sauces such as fish sauce, chili oil or sugar can be added to taste. I like it hot & sour, so I tend to add loads of chili oil, pepper flakes and lime juice.

Summer Wishlist

Sunday, April 26, 2009 by artist chic
Taking a break from typing my essay, I've been surfing random sites and blogs and found myself loving and wanting many things, so I've compiled a little wish list. Hopefully it's little, I get too carried away sometimes.

1. Marc Jacobs Daisy Fragrance
I've been meaning to get this for quite some time now. Every time I go into Sephora I'd always spray it on but my other self would tell me that I wouldn't use it as much and need to save money for more important things so I'd always pass it up. Then the next thing you know, I end up splurging on other materialistic things that I don't use as often, go figure. This has a light floral smell, hence the name "Daisy", it's the perfect scent that reminds me of summer.

2. Gladiator Sandals

My favourite summer shoes, gladiator sandals have been a hit for the past three summers and this year is no different. I own a brown leather pair that I've bought from Zara a year ago and I'm lemming for a metallic and gold pair too!

3. The White Blazer

I love the look of a blazer just over a tee and paired with skinnies or jean shorts. Although I adore my black blazer and wear it with just about everything, a switch to a white blazer is perfect for those cool spring/summer days and nights.

4. Boyfriend Jeans
Okay, not everyone can pull this off, I admit. But I absolutley love this look, it's one of those items where you can just wear with a t-shirt and you're good to go, comfort and style all in one. Boyfriend fit jeans have a looser and slouchier fit.

5. MBMJ Dr. Q Groovee Satchel
Been eyeing this bag since it's first release and this year I'm finally going to to get it.

6. RingsI've never been a jewelery person but for some reason seeing them on other people made me want to get a few for myself. These handmade rings from etsy.com are sure to give expression to any outfit.

Sephora, oh how I love thee.

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 by artist chic
I received the 15% off Sephora email three days ago and actually had time to go there just yesterday. I went in intending to buy two things that I've been wanting and left with three things, which is a first because usually I would end up with five or more items. I ended up getting Clinique's Exfoliating scrub, Oscar Blandi's dry shampoo and Sephora's eye makeup remover. I've read good reviews about the scrub so I had to try it out. I used it last night in the shower and I have to say that it does live up to the reviews! It was not harsh at all and my face felt very soft afterwards. So, thumbs up for Clinique. I traded in my beauty points and got the Benefit Bad Gal mascara, I think I have an obsession with mascaras because I still have three unopened ones! I headed to BBW afterward to pick up three C.O Bigelow's lip balms.
